Life in a Govt Healthcare sector

Keke.. Such an "interesting title". It's my 6th week at TTSH. Well, life here is really.. erm.. interesting. Keke.. Even though I've worked at TDL for 8 mths previously, this seemed like my first real job. It's a big organization, many departments to go through, specific jobscope, many colleagues and plentiful of clients.

Everyday is a busy day at work. From the start, there was little orientation coz of the heavy work load. Everything was OJT (On-the-job training), very different from what I expected. I thought govt sector jobs are super slow paced, and will think one needs to relearn everything from the start and be spoon fed. Hee.. Okok. My fault. So it is really not so for all govt jobs. My job is super fast paced. Everyday I'm busy rushing my cases, and wish time will not pass so fast. At lunch time, we need to be hurried for lunch because we'll be stuck to our jobs. Everyday at 6pm, I would think, "shucks! still got so much work not done!" Haha.. The good thing is that we can go off on time everyday at 6pm. Of course, if we want to stay, we can too. As everyone tells me "There is outstanding work everyday. That is why we have our jobs. So just relax and focus on the urgent and impt everyday." Overall, work is busy, stressful, but fulfilling and enjoyable. I think I really like my job now. ^_^

A New Beginning

Time passes so fast lately. I promised to blog upon confirmation, so though it's a bit late, here I am. During the 2 months of break, I spent time thinking about what I want to do and searched for what I want. Actually I didn't have much courage to pursue what I want, but Melvin pushed me to it, wanting me to wait till the right job came.

I looked through and applied for many jobs that may be what I may want to do. It's easy to get a job, but not easy to wait for the suitable one, because one gets stressed easily without income. In the end, I chanced upon a job in NHG to serve in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The job requires at least 3 years exp in healthcare, and I didn't dare apply at first. Coz I got nil prior health care exp. But Melvin encouraged me to apply for it. I was always interested in health care, and hoped to pursue a career in it, but the opportunities weren't there before. So this time, I took the opportunity to apply for it.

I got this job through many coincidences and blessings. Before I went for the interview, I was offered another job, which I turned down. Heng ar.. lolx.. During the interview, there was a long queue of interviewees which made me really nervous. I was given an essay question when I reached, without being informed beforehand, and told to do it within 30 min. I completed within 15 minutes and was allowed into the interview room earlier, jumping queue, and was tested on my impromptu translation skill during the interview. Diaox. Luckily I passed with flying colours. I was told to be notified within a week if I got the job. During that week, I couldn't sleep. Finally, the phone call came, and hurray! I got it.

So, this is the first time I got a job which I wanted myself, and thought about it for a long long time. It is now my 2nd week, and god, it's really tiring. My job's always busy and on-the-go. Time passes in a blink, and sometimes I got so many tasks on hand I don't know what I'm doing, especially with all the abbreviations and medical terms that hospitals use. And I'm only given the easy jobs now, wait till I get the difficult ones. But at the same time, I find it really challenging and fulfilling. I go home everyday feeling satisfied and very TIRED. keke.. Actually a lot of my job scope is similar to what I did at TDL, but with much much more benefits. I get to see the sun when I end work, I get to spend time with my family and have dinner together, I get to enjoy my weekend, and I get paid more stably! The culture is also suitable for me to have a family, my future mother-in-law's in the health care sector so she takes care of me more now (She kept nagging at Melvin to not disturb me and let me rest more because my job is tiring), I get good medical benefits, I get to enjoy bonuses. Oh, and one really big coincidence and blessing is that my boss is also a vegetarian! Keke.. So... I'm well taken care of by the one up there. With everything in place, and Melvin's new job starting next mon, we prob can have a kid as soon as we get married le. Thank god~ ^_^

My Big Break

After some months of wait, many years of following, I've finally found what I want and heading towards it.

It's Goodbye Consultant and Welcome New Life!

Yaya.. So long nv write le. Keke.. I consolidated my past 2 months experience into this one post. So breathe in and get prepared for a long post~

My switches in life from my previous entry actually meant my resignation from my previous job. I tendered for end august, but my work stint ended earlier than expected on 7Aug, so I was able to enjoy the free time. A lot of people ask why I quit, It was a nice job, just that hours were too long and I didn’t had time for myself and my loved ones. I just wanted to move further and I don’t think I want to be a dating consultant forever. So I started searching for where I belong.

It is nice to have free time on hand, but I’m one who fears loneliness and free time, coz I never had much free time when I was a kid. So I just felt rather under the weather for a while, which gave me a dry spell for writing. But after a while, I got used to the free time started enjoying. So, you must think, what have I been doing in this 2 months break. Well, quite a handful of things.

The past two months, Melvin and I went to Pulau Ubin for a short getaway, went to Thailand for a shopping trip, and lastly to Genting for a last break before our new jobs. We also spared time for Disney on Ice - High School Musical and went to Singfest. Throughout the two months, I spent most of my time at home eating home-cooked food which was something I missed dearly when I work for the last 8 months at TDL. In the past I could only get home after 10, but during the break, I got to stay home and watch tv and internet video (and got myself hooked on Ghost Whisperer), read tons of books (I think I read at least 15books), go shopping, , met up friends, practise cooking(and testing it on my poor bro), start swimming at least once a week, start cleaning up my room on a weekly basis, placed deposit for my flat, bought a bed, drew up my future walk-in-closet etc etc. Well, basically, I had a really fulfilling and relaxing 2 months break.

Here's some pictures from my break. There's only pictures for Pulau Ubin and Singfest coz we didn't take much photos this time. ^_^

Pulau Ubin (9/8 – 11/8)

An early end to TDL gave time to myself, which is probably a blessing in disguise. I was at a loss of what to do when my plans suddenly changed. My prince, as always, just just charged in and cheered for the sudden freedom and practically forced me to find a holiday destination cos he has a long weekend due to the NDP break. He tried so hard to get bookings for everywhere while we were watching High School Musical ice skating performance, but it was fully booked coz we only called the night before Ndp. In the end, we went to Pulau Ubin. Lolx.

Ubin was a place of not so good memories, other than it being super clean air and in the nature. Keke.. It was where I once had to go for St John camps. And trust me, the camps suck. But it was what I needed. Fresh air and nature. So off we went to Pulau Ubin!
We have arrived at Punggol End’s Jetty!
At the dock waiting for the boat to arrive

Thanks for the treat~

My barang barang. I’m so glad I’m not bringing camping stuff!

All drenched up coz that silly boat driver don’t let us go on it before boarding time

Smile~
Look at the yatchs! Don't you feel like having one too?
Our key to Ubin
We’re finally onboard!Luckily there’s less than 12 passengers. You mean only children get life jackets?!?!
Goodbye Singapore!!! Oh.. You mean ubin’s part of Singapore? But ain’t we taking the boat? Ya.. rite.. No passport shown. Our boat driver! (psst.. the one who made us drench! Keke. Quite a nice chap)
He even help us take a picture!
Our resort! Ubin’s really different now. We don’t even have to pitch our own tents! Wow!
Our room key!My very own bed in Ubin! Luxury~ No fire drills at night I hope.
They even have a backdoor And fridge with tables and chairs too! I’m impressed. Television was a bit blur though, coz the reception wasn’t so good. We even had a debate at night on who was hosting the Olympics news while watching(listening) it. My bets were on Jade Seah, and I got it! Too bad, no prize.
Our room. Go buy 4D!
It looks like aloha resorts, just smaller versions.
Tada~ Alfresco Jacuzzis~
And a very dirty swimming pool. I prefer to use the Jacuzzi to wash my legs. Hehe..
Our happy faces, before the cycle
Care for some drinks?
And we finally reached the other jetty! See that straining smile? I want breakfast!!!

I’m soooo… Hungry!
Ya ya.. I’m still eating.
The town centre
A scarecrow in the garden. But the face looks more like a bird to me…
This is the secret garden. Hey! Where’s my mouth?
Doesn’t look very laksa like to me. Oh.. The leaves are the one. I see…
Torch ginger. Read the below if you want to know more. I just took it coz it looks interesting.
Hmmm.. He looks like he’s up to something…
Eh?
Mr Teo did it again! He stole the long beans!! Hor hor…..
Haha.. Sounds like a good plan to me!
Guess where we are? We are at… *drum rolls* Melvin’s grandaunt and granduncle’s place. Ya. We are still in Ubin. Cannot meh?
They even have their own backyard. But it’s not an easy route. Backyard. I can picture them sitting there and looking at the sea. Oh.. and did I mention that his grandaunt and granduncle are quite old? They’re really fantastic to manage all these. ^_^
View is good from where they sit
This is the toilet

Bathroom

Complete with shower facilities. Makes you think of your bathroom and give thanks for it.

They have lots of pets there. Look at this cat sleeping
This dog came to where we’re sitting and chose to sleep below the chair with the support as its pillow
A calendar from 1976! Ya. It's tilted, but it's too troublesome to rotate it, just tilt your head la!
Enough trouble for the old folks. Time to leave!

Phew. We’re really tired after the long ride. Here’s a break shot before reaching our resort.
Oh yep. Not before getting our dinner. It’s a long long trip back again…

Our buddies for the day. Luckily I’m not carrying the bag. Thanks darling!
They sell coconut drinks!
Melvin’s back with coconut drink in the bottle and a coconut behind his back! Or is it his front? Keke…
Food.. yes. Drinks… yes. Ready to go!
The bbq pits look nice.. shouldn’t have gotten packet food…

Smells good too…

so... the next night…

Let’s bbq!
View.. Good
Food… Good.

The transparent gold liquid is oil. The black sauce is heavenly! Hee.. It makes food taste like heaven!
My lovely mushrooms in black sauce. Yummy!!!
Food that we dabaoed back.
Carrying our chairs out to enjoy the view and peacefulness.
I look like a ghost...
Don’t you love the pants?
Returning our keys and back to reality Boat’s here
Goodbye ubin…
The peacefulness and tranquility is truly a marvelous treat
Come on.. stop being so moody… I know you have to work tomorrow…
but I don’t. Keke..
Till we come back again! Maybe quite often in future. ;)

Singfest 2008 (3/8)

We were lucky to get VIP tickets for the Singfest coz my mum's bosses didn't wanna go. It was quite interesting, and the international stars had really good performances. We also had an eye opener of the difference between VIP vs Normal.
Yeah~ We are VIPs!
VIP Room - Aircon with a screen and superb sound system. You can hear the vocals of the singers clearly in this room coz they filter out the crowds' noises. It's the first time I am able to appreciate vocals so clearly in a Live concert.
We even get nice buffet and free flow of drinks (beer included)!
There're side tables that contain Nachos and salad snacks while you watch the concert.
The VIP stand. Just look at the crowd below! One has to pay a few hundred just to stand/squeeze there. We caught sight of Dawn Yang at the VIP stand too. Ya, I know what's on your mind. Yes, quite pretty la.

I know you can't see, but they are The Pussy Cat Dolls. I was hooked to their reality tv quite some time ago so I just wanna put this up regardless if you see it or not. Haha.. But Melvin totally didn't enjoy their performance even though they were dressed scantily. Guess he values vocals over looks. ^_^
